Shows We Like To Watch
When you crave a little time together, but everyone’s too exhausted to do much of anything, there’s nothing better than lying on a couch side by side—if, and only if, there’s no arguing about what to watch first! Here are some choices that have made the majority of our family members happy, or at least a little less cranky and miserable.
Young Sheldon
Learn a little, cringe a little, and fall in love with all of the characters in this show, from the quirky prodigy to the concerned parents, the rebellious siblings, and the hysterical grandma.
Modern Family
Get ready to laugh out loud and watch this funny sitcom on repeat. And with 11 seasons, the laughs should last you a good long while.
Gilmore Girls
Cuddle up under some blankets and get ready to lose a few hours with this mother-daughter heart-warmer. “Coffee, please, and a shot of cynicism.”
Great British Bake Off
Like reality TV, but hate how mean it can get? This feel-good show is for you! Join amateur bakers in the tent for weekly bake-offs where the comradery of the contestants is just as inspiring as the bakes themselves.
Anne with an E
A darker reimagining of the classic book Anne of Green Gables, Anne with an E will inspire your kids to persevere despite all odds. Think of it as a period piece, for kids.
Never Have I Ever
This coming-of-age story of a first generation, Indian American teen trying to navigate between the worlds of her American high school and her Indian family. While this series does delve into more mature parts of the teen experience like sexuality, the death of a parent, and mental health concerns, it’s also super funny and sweet and will make you cringe more than once remembering your own teen awkwardness.
Note: We also liked Glee and some more adult shows —namely, Ted Lasso, All American, and Ginny and Georgia—but be prepared that those shows cover some pretty mature themes. We think some of the uncomfortable moments can be good for dipping your toe into tough conversations, and we also think it’s better to watch shows like this together than letting your teen or tween watch alone. But don’t say we didn’t warn you.
